Testimonial ads
A testimonial ad makes a customer’s own words the main visual: a short quote, five stars, the customer’s first name and a detail that makes it believable (“regular since 2021”, “verified buyer”). The product sits next to it.
Why it works
Other customers are more convincing than the brand. A specific quote (“10K and my feet felt fresh”) does more than a generic one (“great product”). Motion found testimonials hold a steady share of spend with a solid hit rate.

When to use it
- You have reviews that mention a specific result or feeling.
- Higher-priced or unfamiliar products where trust is the barrier.
- Local businesses with strong Google or app-store ratings.
How to write it
- Quote under 15 words. Cut everything that isn’t the result.
- First name + initial + one credibility detail.
- Keep the reviewer’s wording. Do not “improve” it into marketing copy.
Mistakes to avoid
- Invented quotes. The US FTC rule on fake reviews (2024) bans AI-generated or made-up customer testimonials, and platforms remove them.
- Quotes so long they need a second read.
- Placing the quote over a busy part of the photo.
